Haitian-American Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer, Fabrice Guerrier Signs With Trident Media Group

I am pleased to announce I have signed with Trident Media Group (TMG), a leading literary agency based in New York City with Literary Agent Mark Gottlieb.

TMG has consistently been ranked as “The #1 literary agency in the United States” based on Publishers Marketplace, Literary Agencies and Literary Agent Blog. I really still can’t believe it. TMG represents a wide range of authors from a multitude of genres who have been New York Times Best Sellers to the National Book Awards and many more.

Signing with Mark Gottlieb at Trident Media Group defines an incredible stage in my professional journey as a writer. I am really grateful that he saw the literary and creative vision of my completed novel project and deemed my work worthy. I know acquiring a literary agent is an extremely competitive and difficult endeavor for many writers.

I’ve been a long-time advocate for underrepresented creative writers and voices from diverse backgrounds especially through the work I do with the LA based sci-fi and fantasy production house I founded back in 2018 called Syllble, to give BIPOC creatives a leg up. So I do recognize that this next stage will be a challenging journey with many hurdles, nothing is guaranteed.

Pitching directly to major publishers in a publishing industry whose makeup is mostly white, both in the number of acquisition editors and authors who are published each year has been a widely discussed topic over the last few years. From movements like #publishingpaidme, or discussions in magazines like the LA book review, in national outlets like the New York Times, or even the complexities of the merger between Penguin Random House//Simon & Schuster.

Yet in the face of this evolving publishing industry, if you haven’t already heard, it seems that books already written and published by diverse voices are increasingly being banned in schools and libraries across the United States. Read PEN America’s advocacy addressing this horrific rising trend here and here.

We live in troubling times especially with the upcoming U.S elections and as a human species we are faced with impossible challenges like climate change and environmental habitat destructions that need new out of the box solutions. Then you have the strange paradox of more and more people are being lifted out of poverty yet the inequality gap is radically increasing. And then we have war and protracted conflicts. I fundamentally believe that storytelling and narrative remains one of the greatest force to transform society for the better, specifically speculative fiction. Diverse storytelling will and must play a role to transform and expand the narrow fields of our collective hearts and minds imagination.

I do believe there exists meaningful and serious engagements to diversify the entire publishing industry and bring forth excellence storytelling, so ultimately, I am confident in Mark Gottlieb’s skills as my literary agent, his commitment to this cause and us working together. I believe with his publishing experience and expertise, his tenacity and the far reach of Trident Media Group, together can take my literary career to the next level, get my latest book project published and have a greater impact in the publishing industry!

What I can say for now…my novel is a story of immeasurable depth 10 years in the making set in a very vast expanding universe I crafted that blends the epic fantasy, horror and science fiction genre. The novel brings to light a fantasy not built on a Eurocentric foundation. It leans deeply into Caribbean mythology, Haitian magic and Vodou, mythology and traditions. And I really hope one day you will get to read it.

A. Syllble’s Sauuti World in The Guardian - Out of this world: why we created the first collaborative African fantasy universe

  • “Creative writing can be a lonely business. As writers, we inhabit whole worlds and characters that live only in our heads for days or years, as we deposit them on the page. This is particularly true for speculative fiction – an umbrella genre of stories that involve supernatural or futuristic elements, or settings that are not the real world.

This creative loneliness is why I’ve always admired the concept of a “shared world” – a fictional setting with its own set of rules where multiple authors can create stories. Some examples are Thieves’ World, edited by Robert Lynn Asprin, or George RR Martin’s Wild Cards (which spawned dozens of books, comics and games, and was optioned for film and TV).”
